Samsung recently released its first smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear, but is reportedly seeing a high return rate for the gadget.
The Galaxy Gear had a pretty decent start launching at Best Buy stores across the U.S., but it seems that many buyers were not very satisfied with their purchase. According to a new report, a lot of people are returning the Samsung Galaxy Gear.
"Recently added to these stores has been the Galaxy Gear watch, but apparently the launch has been less than ideal in Best Buy stores," reports Geek.com, which claims to have obtained an internal document. "Samsung has found that more than 30% of Galaxy Gear purchases are returned in Best Buy locations, and they have asked that Samsung employees on site help try to figure out why this is."
A return rate of over 30 percent is quite alarming and it will be interesting to find out why so many people are returning the Samsung Galaxy Gear. One of the reasons behind this situation may be the smartwatch's compatibility with other devices.
Samsung launched the Galaxy Gear with support only for the Galaxy Note 3 and the new Galaxy Note 10.1, but promised to update more devices so they could work with the smartwatch. Galaxy Gear buyers, however, may have gotten tired of waiting for the company to extend support and decided to return the gadget instead.
Those who did not return the Galaxy Gear just yet, meanwhile, may be interested in Geek.com's other bit of information. Another leaked document reveals the dates for when other Samsung devices will become compatible with the smartwatch. According to the document, the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 for all carriers should be receiving the necessary updates next month, while T-Mobile's Galaxy Note 2 as the last to get it on Dec. 2.
Keep in mind, however, that these dates are not confirmed and remain in the rumor state until each carrier makes an official announcement regarding their update rollout schedule. It remains to be seen whether extended Galaxy Gear support will help reduce the return rates for the smartwatch.
