Android 4.3 Jelly Bean should have rolled out to all versions of the HTC One by now, but Verizon's version is running one month late.
The HTC One Google Play Edition, the international version, the Developer Edition and the AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint versions are all enjoying the latest Jelly Bean flavor, and Verizon customers should have received it as well.
The carrier is notorious for delaying updates or, in the case of the HTC One, even the launch of the device itself. Sprint was the first to roll out the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the HTC One, followed by AT&T and Sprint, while Verizon was supposed to release the update by the end of this month.
As it turns out, Verizon HTC One owners are in for some bad news. HTC America President Jason Mackenzie has announced, from his personal Twitter account, that the Verizon HTC One Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update has been delayed by as much as one month.
"@One Vz customers: we need more time to spin new SW & re-test 4.3 update. Approx a month. Appreciate your patience as we work to deliver," Mackenzie tweeted on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
The executive did not offer any more details on whether the problem behind this delay stems from the HTC software itself or it's tied to Verizon's update process. On the other hand, it's unlikely that Big Red customers will be all that surprised. Verizon was the last one to launch the HTC One, months after the handset landed on rival carriers, and the delayed update seems to illustrate once more that Verizon is typically late to the party. Fashionably late may be a thing, but not when it comes to hot smartphones and eagerly-awaited software updates.
Ironically, Verizon is the first U.S. carrier to release the Android 4.3 update for the Samsung Galaxy S4, as the new software is currently rolling out over the air (OTA) to the handset. The HTC One, however, seems to have a less fortunate fate on Verizon's network. We'll keep you up to date should anything change regarding the Verizon HTC One Android 4.3 Jelly Bean rollout.
