The Sprint Nexus 5 has made a brief appearance on the carrier's official website, suggesting an imminent launch for the next-generation Google smartphone.
The Nexus 5 is expected to make its grand debut any day now, with Oct. 31 favored as the most likely launch date. Amid a slew of leaks and rumors regarding the upcoming Nexus smartphone from LG, images of the handset have reportedly been spotted on Sprint's website.
The rumor mill has been in a tremendous frenzy recently over the new Nexus 5, which is expected to launch as an affordable smartphone with high-end specs and features, as well as the Nexus experience that guarantees software updates as soon as a new Android version is available.
Recent whispers have suggested that Google may be looking to launch its upcoming Nexus 5 on all four major carriers - AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and T-Mobile. A new report from Android Headlines now claims to have spotted the Nexus 5 on Sprint's website. The purported listing was pulled in the meantime, but the publication did manage to grab some screenshots.
The leaked images don't show any Sprint branding on the purported Google Nexus 5, but a few details suggest it may be the real deal. First, the smartphone itself seems to fall in line with previous leaks and rumors. Second, one of the images (see above) shows the Nexus 5 next to a deck of cards, which is Sprint's way of showing a device's size by comparison. Instead of banana for scale, Sprint uses a deck of cards.
The upcoming smartphone from Google is expected to boast a 4.95-inch full HD display with 1920 x 1080 resolution and a pixel density of 445 pixels per inch (ppi). Under the hood, the handset will reportedly pack a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz and 2GB of RAM. Other rumored specs include an 8-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and a 1.2-megapixel front camera. The Nexus 5 is also expected to support 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy (LE), NFC, and GPS. The device should come in 16GB and 32GB internal storage configurations.
The upcoming Nexus 5 is expected to debut on Oct. 31 or Nov. 1, rocking the new Android 4.4 KitKat operating system put of the box. Google has yet to officially announce or confirm the launch date, but Nestle has just posted a new Android 4.4 KitKat teaser video, suggesting an imminent release.
