AT&T has officially announced plans to launch the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom camera smartphone on Nov. 8 with a $199 price on a two-year contract.
Samsung launched its new Galaxy S4 flagship earlier this year and since then it has also released several spinoffs that borrow some aspects from the flagship but focus on other fronts. While the Galaxy S4 Mini is cheaper and more compact and the Galaxy S4 Active is more rugged, the Galaxy S4 Zoom focuses on the camera experience.
The camera-centric Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom packs a 16-megapixel shooter with several features that aim to deliver a great experience for amateur photographers. It may not boast the high-end 41-megapixel sensor of the Nokia Lumia 1020, but the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom does hold its own.
"Customers need more and more from their smartphones," said Jeff Bradley, AT&T's senior vice president of Devices, in a press release on Monday, Nov. 4. "With powerful, best-in-class optical zoom, in addition to easy access to day-to-day functions like email, social media and more, we're able to offer customers the qualities they want and need all in one device with the Galaxy S 4 zoom."
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom's 16-megapixel camera boasts 10x optical zoom capabilities, optical image stabilization (OIS), over two dozen custom shooting modes, as well as numerous Samsung apps and services, among others.
In terms of specifications, the camera-centric smartphone comes with mid-range hardware. It packs a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 1.5GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage capacity. On the connectivity front, the handset is 4G LTE-enabled and supports NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
AT&T will be offering the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom for $199 on a two-year contract, but it will also make the handset available through its Next upgrade program. This means that interested buyers who don't want to commit to a lengthy contract can get the smartphone for $25 per month from AT&T Next.
Moreover, the Galaxy S4 Zoom will also be eligible for AT&T's current tablet promotion. For a limited time, customers who buy select Galaxy smartphones from the carrier can get a free Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 if they add it to their data plan.
