The Moto Maker customization service for Motorola's latest flagship, the Moto X, made a brief appearance on Verizon's website, suggesting an imminent launch.
One of the biggest attractions of the Moto X was its unprecedented and unparalleled customization options. Motorola believes that a smartphone plays too big of a role in consumers' everyday life to have it standardized for all, so it decided to let users design their own smartphone.
The Moto X is the first smartphone to come with advanced customization options, allowing users to choose their preferred colors, configurations, and more, with over 2,000 possible options. All of this customization was made possible via a smart tool called Moto Maker.
When Motorola's Moto X launched, however, the much-touted Moto Maker service was exclusive to AT&T. After months of speculations and anticipation, the service finally seemed to be live on Verizon Wireless as well, but Big Red pulled the page shortly after.
Verizon initially started selling the Moto X for $199.99 on a two-year contract, but the carrier recently dropped the price tag to $99.99 with a new 24-month agreement. The Moto X packs several neat specifications, including a 4.7-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Under the hood, the handset packs a dual-core Snapdragon processor, an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit (GPU) and 2GB of RAM.
Other specs of the Moto X include a 10-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash, auto focus, HDR mode, face detection, and Panorama mode, as well as a 1.4-megapixel front-facing shooter. When it comes to connectivity, the smartphone comes with Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and DLNA. Interested buyers are able to choose between 16GB or 32GB internal storage configurations. The handset does not, however, have a micro SD card slot, so no additional memory is available.
Despite its neat features and functionality, the Moto X is a mid-range handset in terms of specs. The customization options are what make this smartphone stand out from the crowd, and now Verizon customers seem to be getting a Moto Maker treat soon. Verizon's Moto X Moto Maker page is no longer available, as it now shows just a generic phone page, but we did manage to grab a screenshot, as you can see above. It may not be ready to go live just yet, but this brief appearance suggests that Moto Maker is headed to the Verizon Moto X very soon.
