Acer has a new model of its C720 Chromebook just in time for the holidays, as the company just launched the Acer C720-2848 for $199.99.
The Acer C710 that launched last year came along as a pocket-friendly option for Google fans and budget-conscious consumers, selling for $199.99. The following Acer C720 model was expected to be just as affordable, but Acer decided to launch it with a $249.99 price tag. Nonetheless, it was still the most affordable Chromebook on the market.
With the lucrative holiday shopping season just around the corner, Acer has now launched a new model of the C720, bringing back the low price point of $199.99. The new Acer C720-2848 sports slight changes, but retains most of the specs found on the original model that sells for $50 more.
The C720-2848 Acer Chromebook comes with a 11.6-inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, packs the same Intel Haswell Celeron processor and battery life as the base model, and features 16GB of flash storage.
Other specifications include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual speakers, one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, an HDMI port, and an integrated webcam. One noticeable change, however, lies in the RAM department, as the new model has only 2GB of RAM instead of 4GB. In other words, that $50 savings implies lower hardware capacity, which may not be worth it for some consumers.
Just as most Chromebooks out there, the new Acer C720-2848 comes with up to 100GB of free Drive storage for the first two years, Google Play Music All Access and 12 free Gogo Inflight passes, courtesy of Google.
The refreshed Acer C720-2848 Chromebook is already available for purchase from Best Buy and Amazon, and is expected to hit the Acer Store sometime in December, targeting budget-conscious holiday shoppers.
To get the new C720-2848 Chromebook from Best Buy head here, or find it on Amazon at this link. Considering that it's a decent laptop with an affordable price tag and some neat Google freebies bundled, Acer will likely boost sales of its Chromebooks at least during the holiday shopping season.
