The iPad Mini with Retina display seems to be running in short supply already, as carriers apparently pushed back their shipping dates for the cellular models of the tablet.
Even before Apple announced its second-generation iPad Mini, reports started to surface claiming that the tablet would face supply issues due to low production yields for the Retina display.
Just a little over a week since the iPad Mini with Retina went on sale, the short-supply predictions seem to be confirmed. According to CNET, carriers have been pushing back their shipping dates for the cellular models of the tablet.
"Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile are all back-ordered on the cellular version of the Mini Retina, with Verizon's date now slipping to December 2," CNET reports.
"Last week, Verizon had been saying November 25. And the carrier isn't saying when the device may arrive in stores, according to a company spokesperson. T-Mobile is now showing the Mini Retina back-ordered 6-8 weeks. AT&T is saying 21-28 days for orders to ship."
The iPad Mini with Retina display was greatly-anticipated and demand was expected to be high. The original iPad Mini was popular and appealed to plenty of iFans, but many felt disappointed that the tablet did not pack Apple's much-touted Retina display. The second-generation iPad Mini now comes with the high Retina resolution customers were waiting for, but it seems that supply issues may make things difficult.
Apple decided to make store purchases of the new iPad Mini with Retina display exclusive to personal pickup, but availability of the Wi-Fi + Cellular models currently seems problematic.
Even Apple's own web store is currently listing the iPad Mini with Retina display with wait periods of 5-10 days for all major U.S. carriers. With the holiday shopping frenzy just around the corner, supplies of the Retina iPad Mini will likely run even tighter. The tablet received high-praise and great reviews and it is expected to be a popular choice for gifts this holiday season. It remains to be seen whether Apple will be able to keep up with demand and have enough stock of the Retina iPad Mini for the holidays.
