The LG G2 in Canada will reportedly get an update to the latest Android 4.4 KitKat at the end of the first quarter in 2014.
An LG Canada representative told Mobile Syrup that the LG G2 will receive an update to Android 4.4 KitKat at the end of Q1 2014, which means sometime in late March.
"We've just received word that LG is promising an update to Android 4.4 for its flagship G2 smartphone in late Q1, 2014, or near the end of March," Mobile Syrup reports. "According to company representative, Court Elliot, LG Canada is going to offer the software to carriers at the same time, though it's unclear if the rollout will begin the same day across all providers."
If everything goes as planned, a simultaneous rollout should hit all carriers that sell the LG G2 in the country. The smartphone is currently available in Canada from Rogers, Bell, Telus, Wind, SaskTel, and Videotron.
It's worth noting, however, that even if LG does start to offer the software update to all carriers at the same time, this doesn't mean that the LG G2 Android 4.4 KitKat update will see a simultaneous OTA rollout on all carriers in Canada.
The Q1 2014 timeframe may not be the greatest news for Canadian LG G2 owners who are eager to get the latest Android version as soon as possible, but at least the software update is definitely coming. Google launched its latest Android 4.4 KitKat on Oct. 31, which means that a March update would be five months after the software's release. Considering that many smartphones owners have to wait even longer to get an update, a five-month delay is not that long. The LG Optimus G, for instance, is still stuck on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, and LG has yet to announce any update plans for the handset.
Meanwhile, LG G2 owners in Europe may be in for some better news, as the handset will reportedly get an OTA update to Android 4.4 KitKat by the end of the year in France. On the other hand, LG has not announced this yet, so at least the Canada update is officially confirmed.
