Walmart will kick off a holiday sale on Friday, Dec. 13, selling the iPhone 5C for $27 and the iPhone 5S for $127, both on a two-year contract.
Apple always sees whopping sales of its products during the holidays, and this year's promotional deals from Walmart will likely drive iPhone sales even further.
According to a new report from the Los Angeles Times, Walmart will be running this promotional sale from Dec. 13 through Dec. 24. Under this promotion, the retailer will sell the lower-specced iPhone 5C for just $27 on a two-year contract. The iPhone 5C normally costs $99 on-contract, but Walmart and several other retailers have been offering various discounts ever since the smartphone debuted back in September.
Before it was officially announced, the iPhone 5C was widely expected to launch as a low-cost iPhone. Many were disappointed when Apple officially launched the smartphone and, as a result, the iPhone 5C was not as popular as the company likely hoped.
Walmart initially sold the iPhone 5C for $79 on-contract, only to drop the price to $45 in October. The retailer offered an even more attractive deal on Black Friday, throwing in a $65 gift card with every iPhone 5C purchased for $45. While holiday promotions for various smartphones and gadgets are very common, the iPhone 5C saw heavy discounts ever since it launched.
The iPhone 5S, meanwhile, proved to be in great demand and even faced supply constraints at launch and for several weeks afterwards. Starting Friday, Dec. 13, Walmart will be selling the iPhone 5S for $127 on a two-year contract, allowing for considerable savings compared to the smartphone's standard price of $199. Moreover, Walmart will also offer a $50 gift card with the purchase of a 16GB original iPad Mini, which sells for $299.
Apple devices have always been popular gift choices for the holidays, and this year Apple will spread some cheer itself, as the company has decided to make its 12 Days of Gifts app available in the U.S. for the first time. This way, consumers who get a new iDevice this holiday season will be able to use the app and get some free content from the App Store.
