LG has unveiled a new smartphone, the LG Gx, which looks like the successor of last year's Optimus G Pro.
The company has been upping its game recently with notable smartphone launches such as the LG G2 and the wildly popular Google Nexus 5. LG has now added a new handset to its flagship G series in the form of the 5.5-inch LG Gx phablet, but it's not as high-end as previously expected.
The new LG Gx seems to be quite similar to the company's Optimus G Pro, which prompted speculation that it could be its successor. Just like the Optimus G Pro, the LG Gx sports a physical home button below the screen, as well as capacitive back and menu keys.
In terms of specifications, the new LG Gx features a 5.5-inch full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and packs a quad-core Snapdragon processor under the hood. Instead of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, however, the LG Gx comes with a Snapdragon 600.
Other specs include 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage capacity, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front shooter, and a powerful 3,140 mAh removable battery. Wireless connectivity options consist of 4G LTE, HSPA+, VoLTE, EV-DO, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, and NFC.
The LG Gx runs Android Jelly Bean, but the company has not specified which version. The smartphone also runs LG's customized UX with various enhancements, including Smart Memo, Media Time, Smart Day, QuickMemo, QSlide, QTranslator, and many others. The LG Gx will launch in black and white color options and will also come with a Quick Window accessory.
LG has yet to provide any pricing or availability details for the new LG Gx. It also remains unclear at this point whether the smartphone will launch exclusively in Korea or will reach other markets as well. We'll stay on top of this and keep you up to date as soon as we learn more about the LG Gx's launch and availability. In the meantime, check out the company's press release (translated) for more details regarding the smartphone's specs and features.
