Amazon now has the cheap, unlocked Moto G smartphone in stock and ready to ship, offering the 8GB and 16GB, U.S. GSM and Global GSM variants.
The retailer started taking pre-orders for the Moto G in early December and it is now ready to ship the smartphone. The Moto G drew a lot of attention due to its very affordable price tag unlocked.
When Motorola launched its flagship Moto X, many found the handset to be quite expensive considering the specs it packs. The Moto X comes with great customization options that make it unique, but its specs are not very high-end. Nonetheless, the smartphone launched at a price point similar to high-end flagship smartphones with far better hardware. Motorola promised to offer a cheaper Moto smartphone as well, and recently it unveiled its new Moto G.
The Moto G has a similar design to the flagship Moto X and allows for some customization through the use of removable back color plates. As expected, it features lower specs than the Moto X, but it comes as one of the cheapest unlocked smartphones around.
For those unfamiliar with the device, the Moto G sports a 4.5-inch LCD display with a decent resolution of 1280 x 720 and a pixel density of 329 pixels per inch (ppi). Under the hood, the smartphone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, Adreno 305 graphics, and 1GB of RAM. Other specs include a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 4x digital zoom, panorama, slow motion video, and tap-to-focus, as well as a 1.3-megapixel front shooter. Wireless connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS.
The Moto G is available in 8GB or 16GB internal storage configurations and also comes with 50GB of Google Drive cloud storage for two years. The handset runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box, with an update to the latest Android 4.4 KitKat promised for January.
Amazon now has the 8GB and 16GB Moto G in stock and ready to ship. The retailer offers both the U.S. GSM models and the Global GSM versions. The CDMA-compatible Moto G is not available yet. The U.S. GSM versions will work on AT&T and T-Mobile's networks.
The 8GB Moto G costs $179.99, while the 16GB model goes up to $199.99. Both prices are for the unlocked, contract-free smartphone.
