The Verizon Wireless model of the budget-friendly Moto G is reportedly coming to Best Buy stores for $99.99 without a contract.
Motorola announced its new Moto G smartphone back in November, aiming to offer a low-cost alternative to its flagship Moto X. At the time, the company said it would launch the Moto G in early 2014 for U.S. carriers. An unlocked GSM version has already been available for some time in the U.S., and it now looks like the CDMA variant is ready to debut as well.
According to a new report from the Los Angeles Times, Best Buy has confirmed that it will sell the Verizon Moto G very soon.
"The phone is currently landing in stores and is available for sale as soon as it arrives," Best Buy spokesman Jonathan Sandler told the LA Times.
As expected, the Moto G doesn't boast high-end specifications, but it does sport a very attractive price tag. The smartphone went on sale in the U.S. last month with a $179 price tag for the 8GB GSM model and $199 for the 16GB GSM model, straight from Motorola's website.
The $99.99 price tag for the Verizon Moto G from Best Buy is most likely for the 8GB model. Considering that the smartphone is offered contract-free, $99.99 is a great price although the device would be locked on Verizon's network. The GSM models work with AT&T and T-Mobile's networks.
As a reminder, the new Moto G comes with a 4.5-inch 720p display and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. The handset is designed for budget-conscious smartphone shoppers who want an entry-level device at a very low price point. It's worth noting that the smartphone only supports 3G, which means that neither the GSM nor the CDMA models will be able to blaze on fast 4G LTE networks.
Best Buy has not listed the Moto G as available for sale on its website so far, and the smartphone has not reached all Best Buy retail stores yet. The Verizon Moto G should go on sale very soon, but it might be a good idea to contact your local Best Buy store before heading over to buy it.
