LG has officially introduced two new color options for its flagship smartphone, offering the LG G2 in new Red and Gold models.
The LG G2 has stirred plenty of interest worldwide, as it is a high-end device with top-notch specs and features, as well as a unique design that sets it apart from the crowd.
After the gold-colored LG G2 was spotted in Taiwan, LG has made both the gold and the red color options official, TechDroid reports. The two new color options reportedly aim to celebrate the Chinese New Year, aka the Lunar New Year, which kicks off in a couple of weeks.
Aside from its high-end specs and features, the LG G2 also drew a lot of attention due to its unique design. The company opted for a "Rear Key Concept" for its latest flagship, basically moving the volume rocker and power button to the rear of the smartphone instead of its sides, as found in most handsets. According to LG, this concept allows for easier one-handed use, as well as a better grip, as that's where the user's finger naturally rest on the smartphone.
While the limited-edition red and gold variants of the LG G2 retain all of the original smartphone's technical specifications, they do bring a slight change in terms of design. The new models feature a textured back cover instead of the plastic back case of the standard LG G2, which provides a better grip and eliminates those annoying fingerprints that stick to plastic.
When it comes to specifications, the LG G2 sports a 5.2-inch full HD IPS display, a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.26GHz, and 2GB of RAM. Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front-facing shooter, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage capacity, and a large 3,000 mAh battery. The smartphone ships with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on board, but is expected to get the latest Android 4.4 KitKat shortly.
In Taiwan, the new red and gold LG G2 will retail for 14,900 TWD (about $496) for the 16GB model and 16,900 TWD (roughly $562) for the 32GB variant. In Singapore, the smartphone will cost $898 SGD off-contract, and will be available for purchase from telecom operators Starhub, SingTel, and M1 starting on Jan. 18.
Considering that the new color options aim to commemorate the Lunar New Year, however, the new Red and Gold LG G2 may not make their way to the U.S.
