Sprint has started to roll out Android 4.4.2 KitKat for its HTC One, becoming the first U.S. carrier to provide the long-awaited update.
HTC has been quite transparent in regards to the update process for its flagship smartphone, offering details on a regular basis. The Android 4.4 KitKat was expected to roll out this week for the HTC One on all major U.S. carriers, but HTC ultimately announced that its self-imposed end-January deadline for the update rollout would not be met. The company said it would take an additional week or two, but the update was still on its way.
Sprint has now become the first of the four major U.S. carriers to roll out the very latest version of Android to its version of the HTC One.
The carrier has just released the Android 4.4.2 update, which comes in the form of a 535MB package. The update will take just a few minutes to download and install over Wi-Fi, but make sure that you have a strong and stable connection so the update process completes without interruption. As always with OTA updates, the Android 4.4.2 firmware for the Sprint HTC One will roll out gradually, which means that it may not roll out to all users just yet. If you have yet to receive the update notification, fret not, the update is rolling out in phases and should become available for your device shortly.
If you can't wait to receive the notification, you can always manually check whether the update is available for your device. To do so, access your phone's settings and check out the system update menu.
With the update now available for the Sprint HTC One as well, HTC has also updated its dedicated website to reflect the progress. As you can see in the image above, the company's website now shows that the Android 4.4 KitKat update is now complete for the Unlocked, Developer Edition, and Google Edition of the HTC One, as well as the Sprint version. The AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon versions of the HTC One, meanwhile, still appear to be in the certification stage. This means that the update is not yet available for these versions, but should start rolling out soon.
The Sprint HTC One update to the very latest version of Android should bring notable enhancements and improve the overall user experience, and it will also bring some neat new features to the table. If you are an HTC One owner on Sprint and you have already received the update, drop by our comment section below and let us know how it fares.
