Mozilla has teamed up with EverythingMe and showed off the upcoming Firefox Launcher for Android app during the InContext Conference in San Francisco.
The Firefox Launcher for Android, made in collaboration with Israeli contextual computing startup EverythingMe, will become available for download in the coming weeks as an innovative home screen replacement. The Launcher is still in development, but will soon be available for beta testing.
"We're working together to deliver the best possible mobile Web experience to people everywhere - regardless of location, platform or device," Mozilla touted in its blog post on Wednesday, Feb. 5. "We are happy to expand our work together with this new product to give people more smart, easy and innovative ways to personalize their Web experience and meet their needs in any context."
"Firefox Launcher for Android makes it easy to discover the content you want in any moment and is optimized for the way you use your phone. The app integrates the contextual adaptive app search from EverythingMe with the Firefox for Android Web browser to offer users a personalized and customizable Web experience that is fun and intuitive."
More specifically, the Firefox Launcher will reportedly offer suggestions and smart searches within the apps installed on the device. In the morning, for instance, it will show weather and news apps to get your day going, while in the afternoon it will switch to apps related to work, calendar, or recommended apps to find a place for lunch, and so on. To improve its results, the Firefox Launcher will filter apps based on the user's searched keywords.
Mozilla has also announced Firefox 27, the latest version of its browser, on Wednesday. The new Firefox will boast major updates for its Social API, such as support for the Delicious Web 2.0 social bookmarking tool and the Indian music service Saavn.
With the updated Firefox Social API, users will be able to run more than one service at a time, thus being able to receive notifications from several integrated services.
As far as the Firefox Launcher for Android goes, neither Mozilla nor EverythingMe have offered any additional information at this point, but we'll keep you posted as soon as we hear more.
