The LG G Pro 2 may make its debut sooner than expected, launching on Feb. 13 in South Korea, according to a new report.
LG has already confirmed that the successor to its Optimus G Pro will be called the LG G Pro 2 and will launch in February, but the company was widely expected to unveil the new smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, which kicks off on Feb. 24 in Barcelona, Spain.
A new report from ZDNet Korea, however, now claims that the LG G Pro 2 may in fact launch as soon as Feb. 13. LG reportedly sent out invites for an event on that date in Korea, as you can see in the image above. The event is called "Knock-knock-knockin' on," likely referencing LG's popular Knock On feature that allows users to wake a smartphone from sleep mode by simply tapping twice on the screen.
Based on reports so far, the LG G Pro 2 is expected to launch with a 6-inch full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, a hefty 3GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel rear camera, among other things.
If this event on Feb. 13 is indeed scheduled for an LG G Pro 2 unveiling, the company might be preparing other surprises for the MWC 2014 trade show. On the other hand, LG could also save the MWC for a European premiere of the upcoming G Pro 2, repeating its strategy last year with the LG Optimus Pro.
The much-rumored LG G Pro 2, however, is not the only high-end device LG is expected to introduce this year. The company's 2014 flagship is expected to launch as the LG G 3, not the G Pro 2, and be a real Samsung Galaxy S5 challenger. Though nothing is official so far, the LG G3 is rumored to boast a 5.5-inch display with a whopping resolution of 2550 x 1440 pixels and top-notch specs and features all around. That smartphone is expected to come later on, likely in May, so it will likely not grace the MWC.
As always with reports and speculation, take everything with a grain of salt. If LG unveils its G Pro 2 on Feb. 13, we'll make sure to tell you all about it. We'll also be covering the MWC trade show in Barcelona, so stay tuned for more news.
