Nokia has reportedly released a new firmware update for its Lumia 1520 phablet, bringing several bug fixes and general performance improvements.
The Nokia Lumia 1520 was a first for both Nokia and Microsoft. It launched not only as the first phablet from the Finnish company, but also the very first phablet to run Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system. While previous versions of the OS did not support higher-end hardware specifications and larger screen sizes, the GDR3 update for Windows Phone 8 finally allowed for bigger and better smartphones.
Nokia seized the opportunity and launched the Lumia 1520, which sports high-end specs and features and a massive 6-inch display. The Nokia Lumia 1520 is definitely the most advanced Windows Phone device, but it still has some areas that need more work. The video camera performance, for instance, was deemed particularly disappointing.
It now seems that Nokia has started to roll out a new firmware update for the Lumia 1520 Windows Phone handset, aiming to fix some bugs affecting the device. The update is expected to bring several bug fixes and improvements and comes with build number 1029.3534.1347.2001 in the U.S. and 1028.3562.1402.00xx in Europe.
According to a report from WindowsMania.pl (via WMPowerUser), the chanelog only mentions general performance and usability improvements, without detailing the exact bugs fixed or any other changes.
The update is reportedly available already in the NCS and NSU, and should become available as an over-the-air (OTA) update soon as well. It remains unclear at this point whether the new firmware will improve video quality, but it will likely bring some notable enhancements in terms of performance.
As a reminder, the Nokia Lumia 1520 boasts a large 6-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, packs a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor under the hood, and comes with Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB of RAM. In terms of software, the supersized smartphone runs the latest version of Windows Phone. Other specs include a high-end 20-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, as well as a 1.2-megapixel front-facing shooter for self-shots and video calls.
As previously mentioned, the OTA is expected to become available shortly, and it will roll out in phases. If you have already downloaded the firmware update for your Nokia Lumia 1520, drop by our comment section below and let us know how it fares. Is video quality better now or the same?
