HTC has announced its new HTC Advantage plan that comes with several neat features, including a free screen replacement if you crack your device's display.
Moreover, the company has also committed to "future software innovation" and "content solutions," and by now you probably also heard that new devices will benefit from two whole years of software support.
HTC first touted the cracked screen replacement offer a few days ago in a post on Twitter. At the time, the company promised to offer more details on Feb. 18. The big day has now arrived, and HTC just introduced its new Advantage plan, which offers benefits for the HTC One, HTC One Max, and HTC One Mini.
"Introducing HTC Advantage. Because when you buy the best, it should stay that way - from technology to design to your content - at no additional cost. That's our commitment to our customers," HTC boasts in its description for the new HTC Advantage.
"Now when customers buy an HTC One they can rest assured their device will be future proofed, with major Android updates for 2 years from launch. And it's nearly accident-proof too, because we will replace a broken screen for free once within the first 6 months you own it - let's face it accidents do happen and we want to keep your device in great condition."
This free screen replacement is surely the most attractive benefit in the new HTC Advantage plan, but there's a catch. First of all, in order to benefit from the free screen replacement, as the announcement notes, this would have to occur within the first six months of owning the device, and you will only be entitled to one free screen replacement. Second, the process may take longer than you'd think. HTC will send you a box in which you have to pack your device and ship it to the company, but the shipping will take roughly 8 - 10 days. If you can't wait that long, you can choose to go for expedited shipping and a refurbished device for $29, and you can use the box it comes in to send your defective device.
It's also worth highlighting that the free screen replacement only covers screen damage such as cracking, but not water damage. The company will be checking for signs of other damage, and other issues may incur additional charges.
HTC is further offering other goodies, such as 25GB to 50GB of free Google Drive online storage and device back-up services. The amount of storage will vary depending on device, and the offer will last for two years.
"Our mission is to reward those that buy the very best by treating them as well on day 500 as the day they walk out of the store. It's something we believe a premium product maker should do."
Lastly, it's worth pointing out the details in the fine print: the one-time free screen replacement within the first six months for purchase will only be available for original buyers of the HTC One, HTC One Max, and HTC One Mini, who make their purchase after Feb. 18, 2014. This means that if you've purchased one of these handsets before this date, you will not be eligible for the free screen replacement.
