BlackBerry has shown off its latest offerings at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, including its new Z3 all-touch smartphone running BlackBerry 10 OS.
The Canadian company lost significant ground to rivals in recent years, and the new Z3 marks its latest effort to regain some relevance in the smartphone market. Its recent BB10 smartphones failed to see much success, but BlackBerry is clearly not ready to give up just yet.
The new BlackBerry Z3 sports a 5-inch display and no physical keyboard and will run the latest BlackBerry 10 OS, version 10.2.1. The all-touch smartphone will come with access to the BlackBerry Hub, BBM, BlackBerry Keyboard, and more, and it also has an integrated FM tuner. The camera is also a notable feature, as it sports Time Shift and Story maker functions to ensure users get the best photos possible.
It's also worth noting that the Z3 is the first smartphone to come out since BlackBerry struck a strategic partnership with Foxconn, announced back in December.
"We are excited to introduce the new BlackBerry Z3, the first smartphone to emerge from our strategic partnership with Foxconn, which was announced in mid-December 2013," said BlackBerry CEO and Executive Chairman John Chen. "The BlackBerry Z3 embodies all that BlackBerry 10 offers, with its exceptional productivity features and reliable communications, in a stylish, all-touch design made affordable for customers in Indonesia."
"This is only the beginning of what we know will be a long and fruitful partnership between Foxconn and BlackBerry," added Terry Gou, Foxconn Founder and Chairman.
While BlackBerry has officially taken the wraps off its new Z3 smartphone, the company failed to disclose any of the smartphone's hard specs at this point. In other words, it remains unclear what sort of processor the BlackBerry Z3 will use, how much RAM it will pack, what camera, or what other features it will have. The price also remains a mystery for now. All BlackBerry said is that its new Z3 will hit Indonesian carriers in April. The company didn't mention whether the BlackBerry Z3 will make its way to other markets as well, but we'll make sure to keep you up to date as soon as we learn more.
