Verizon Samsung ‘Huron’ Windows Phone 8.1-based smartphone to launch as ATIV SE with Galaxy S4-like specs
Alexandra BurlacuSamsung's upcoming Windows Phone device dubbed "Huron" and codenamed SM-750V will reportedly launch as the Samsung ATIV SE on Verizon Wireless' network.
It's been quite some time since Samsung has released a Windows Phone handset, but recent rumors claimed that the company was working on a new "Samsung Huron" device.
The handset was recently spotted both at the FCC and on the Bluetooth SIG, suggesting an imminent arrival. Samsung has yet to confirm plans for such a device, but leaks and details seem to be piling up.
Well-known tipster @evleaks, who has an excellent track record when it comes to leaking information that is yet to be officially announced, has recently joined the party and offered an image of the purported Samsung Huron. At the time, the tipster said the upcoming Windows Phone handset from Samsung would hit Verizon's network and would run Microsoft's latest Windows Phone 8.1 operating system, which is yet to make its official debut.
Evleaks is now back with more details, claiming that Samsung's upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 device will launch as the Samsung ATIV SE when it hits commercial availability at Verizon Wireless.
"Verizon's Samsung Huron to be branded ATIV SE at retail," reads @evleaks' latest tweet in this regards, posted on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
While nothing is official yet regarding this handset, various leaks and rumors so far have tried to paint a picture of what to expect. Based on such speculation, it seems that the upcoming Samsung Huron, or ATIV SE, will be quite similar to the Samsung Galaxy S4, but rocking Windows Phone 8.1 as its operating system.
Microsoft is expected to release its new Windows Phone 8.1 OS at its annual BUILD conference in April. If @evleaks proves to be accurate, the purported Samsung ATIV SE may hit Verizon's network soon after that.
Nokia is currently the undisputed leader when it comes to Windows Phone devices, but if Samsung makes its ATIV SE similar to its Galaxy S4 it may just have a winner on its hands. As always with leaks and speculation, however, it is highly advisable to take this news with a grain of salt until official confirmation.
