The zombie apocalypse horror film "Train to Busan," starring Gong Yoo, Ma Dong-Seok, Jung Yu-Mi, and Kim Su-An, became the highest-grossing Korean film of all time in Hong Kong box office.

Latest reports claimed that "Train to Busan" has broken record after record in Hong Kong since its debut on Aug. 25, taking in more than $16 million. The zombie apocalypse horror film crushed the record of the highest grossing South Korean film in Hong Kong - which was held by "My Sassy Girl" since 2002, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

On its 13th day of release, "Train to Busan" surpassed the record of the top Brad Pitt-starrer zombie genre film "World War Z." It was also the daily top grossing film in the territory.

"Even imagining reaching 10 million is terrifying," said Gong Yoo. "I would be happy with five million. Even five million would be my highest score ever."

Due to the immense success of "Train to Busan," major production houses in Europe and United States are already competing up to bag its remake rights. Bidders from Hollywood include the 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures, while interested production houses in France are Canal Plus, Gaumont, and EuropaCrop.

"Although no deal has yet been decided or signed, we're in talks with major studios and indie production houses in Hollywood and France that are highly interested in remaking the film," a source close to the negotiations told Variety.

Will Song Joong-Ki Star In 'Train To Busan 2'?

Since Gong Yoo previously revealed that his character, Seok-Woo, broke his neck and died when he tumbled off the bullet train, it reported that the "Descendants of the Sun" star Song Joong-Ki, 31, will allegedly join the cast of "Train to Busan 2."

However, it is important to note that the only project Song Joong-Ki has confirmed his casting following "Descendants of the Sun" is the "Battleship Island," an upcoming historical period drama film directed by Ryoo Seung-Wan. He will be joined by Hwang Jung Min, So Ji Sub, Lee Jong Hyung, and Kim Su-an.
