'Beyond Good and Evil 2' Is Still Happening, Ubisoft Boss Yves Guillemot Confirms Despite E3 Absence
Jazz RosinAction-adventure game "Beyond Good and Evil 2" is still pushing through, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed during an interview.
After its notable absence at Ubisoft's E3 press conference, Guillemot has assured fans that the sequel to its 2003 game is definitely in the works.
"It's still on the way," the Ubisoft boss said in a Youtube Live interview at E3, although he also hinted that it might take a while before the game is even released.
Guillemot said that Michel Ancel, the creator of the "Rayman" series and director of the first "Beyond Good and Evil," is working on two games at the moment, the other being Sony's Playstation 4 exclusive adventure game "Wild."
"It's coming along, but he has to spend more time on it so we can see it faster," Guillemot said.
DualShockers has spotted Ubisoft filing a trademark for "Beyond Good and Evil" in April, fueling rumors of a possible E3 reveal. Unfortunately, these rumors are now proven untrue.
The "Beyond Good and Evil" sequel was announced by Ubisoft in 2008. Despite rumors about the game's future, Ancel has confirmed that the game is still in development. The team working on "Beyond Good and Evil" took a break to focus on "Rayman Origins" in 2011.
Speaking to French site GameKyo in 2012, Ancel expressed his personal feelings about the project, saying that he and his team wants to allot as much time and effort into "Beyond Good and Evil 2" in order to achieve the result they wanted.
The original "Beyond Good and Evil" has suffered from poor sales and was a commercial "disappointment," according to Official US PlayStation Magazine.
Despite not being a commercial success, however, "Beyond Good and Evil" has received critical acclaim from various sites and gaming awards bodies, getting numerous nominations for its game design, musical composition and story development.
Ubisoft has been quiet about the "Beyond Good and Evil" sequel, and Guillemot's hesitation about the game's development is worrying. He did confirm that the title is not cancelled, however, and that is a very good thing.
