"Mega Man" fans were excited when "Mighty no. 9" was announced in 2013. After years of waiting, tons of delays and a terrible teaser trailer, it's disappointing to discover that this is not the "Mega Man" game we are all asking for.
Gamespot is equally disappointed in what "Mighty no. 9" turned out to be. While the game exudes nostalgia and has similar gameplay elements with its more successful cousin "Mega Man," this does not make up for the number of issues in the game.
Some of the stages are a bit laggy, Gamespot reported, and some lighting and particle effects are not used that often. Cut scenes are also a disappointment, with Gamespot criticizing the "slow and abrasive" English voice acting.
Gamespot gives "Mighty no. 9" a score of 5 out of 10, saying that the game barely succeeds in bearing the legacy of a classic series. It is described as "an inoffensively average game sprung from the memories of the past, with little to show for its position in the present."
IGN reported that "Mighty no. 9" lacks a "spark of magic and sense of rhythm" needed to make a platformer game successful. Absorbing enemy powers seem to be less exciting, as the abilities become useless in the long run.
The game site gave "Mighty no. 9" a mediocre 5.6 out of 10, saying that the game "fails to entertain despite its legendary pedigree."
Game Informer called the game a "lifeless Mega Man clone." The game may look and play like "Mega Man," but it does not have the heart of Capcom's classic game.
The content of "Mighty no. 9" feels recycled from the "Mega Man" franchise, from weapon designs to enemy sprites, but it lacks the style of the original "Mega Man".
Game Informer gave the game only 3.5 out of 10, stating that "Mighty no. 9" was supposed to satisfy the fans' appetite for a new "Mega Man" game, but left them wanting to play the old games again instead.
"Mighty no. 9" is out now on Playstation 4, PC, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
