Fresh reports associated with the long-rumored Google Nexus tablet have started surfacing online. If such a tablet exists, it will surely come out at Google I/O Conference kicking off June 27. No tablet packs all rumored features and if the latest reports are to be believed, the Asus-made Nexus tablet will also miss some of the key features, including 3G connectivity and rear camera.
Citing sources within supply chain, Industry watcher Digitimes reported on Tuesday that the Internet search giant will only release Wi-Fi version of Nexus tablet. Blame the low costs, the tablet will also lack rear camera. However, the front facing camera will be up there for video conferencing.
Last week, two photos believed to be captured with the Nexus tablet were posted at Google-controlled photo-sharing service Picasa. According to the attached geo-tagging metadata, the images were captured at Google base. Perhaps those photos, with resolution of 1280 X 960 pixels, were captured through the front-facing camera.
There are no words on operating system version in the report, whether it will be Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. But the publication indicates that some software innovation can be expected as Google Chrome will be set as default browser in the tablet, which is rumored in case of Jelly Bean.
Not a long time, the tablet was also caught up in server logs. The Rightware Power Board system listed the tablet as "Nexus 7" featuring 7-inch display with a resolution of 1280 X 768 pixels. The processor is found to be quad-core Tegra 3 clocked at 1.3GHz. The Nexus tablet runs Android version 4.1, which apparently is the Jelly Bean operating system.
Ditching cellular network support and rear camera, the Google Nexus tablet will be of no worry for Apple iPad. However, it will turn out to be business killer for entry level tablets like Barnes & Noble Nook tablet, Amazon Kindle Fire and Galaxy Tab.
Google Nexus tablet is expected to hit the market in July with initial price set at $199.
