After delivering the latest installment of Ice Cream Sandwich to the dethroned flagship smartphone Galaxy S2, Samsung is now turning towards its Galaxy Tab lineup of tablets to launch Android 4.0 ICS update.

Citing sources within Samsung Canada staff, Sam Mobile revealed that Samsung tablets ranging from Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus to Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich very soon. The first phase of ICS update roll out will begin in July, while most of the updates are scheduled for August. Wi-Fi models will be first to receive the update.

The words are not official but it is appears that the report is legitimate. Samsung Mobile HK has confirmed the update on its Facebook page. According to the Facebook post, Galaxy Tab 7.7 will be getting Android 4.0 ICS in July. Samsung will roll out the first phase of ICS update for Galaxy Tabs next month. Galaxy Tab owners in Europe and Korea will be first in the queue to receive the update, while it will be hitting U.S. shores after a week or two.

Sam Mobile has confirmed Android 4.0 ICS update for following Galaxy Tab models:

  • GT-P6210 Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 Wi-Fi
  • GT-P6200 Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 WIFI + 3G
  • GT-P6810 Galaxy Tab 7.7 Wi-Fi
  • GT-P6800 Galaxy Tab 7.7 WIFI + 3G
  • GT-P7310 Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi
  • GT-P7300 Galaxy Tab 8.9 WIFI + 3G
  • GT-P7510 Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi
  • GT-P7500 Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI + 3G

Earlier this year, Samsung confirmed ICS update for Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 on Verizon Wireless, Galaxy Tab 8.9 on AT&T, and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and Galaxy Tab 10.1 on T-Mobile. However, the Korean tech giant didn't mention a specific window for the update.

The update will improve device's performance and battery life, along with refreshing the tablets with the latest touch of Ice Cream Sandwich. We can expect addition of native Android 4.0 features like finger-swipe notification clearance, face unlock and revamped lock screen.

If these reports are to be believed, the original Galaxy Tab will be the only Samsung-made tablet left out of the official update list. The original Galaxy Tab simply wasn't made to receive software updates so far.
