'Iron Fist' News Update: Latest Trailer Shows Danny Rand In New York

S. Turla

On Tuesday, Feb. 7., Netflix unveiled the second trailer for the upcoming show "Iron Fist." In the newest trailer for the Netflix show, Daniel "Danny" Rand (portrayed by Finn Jones) returns to New York after being missing for fifteen years.

According to Screen Rant, "Iron Fist" is the final member of this summer's upcoming show "Defenders" and "crossover event." Finn Jones, who portrays Danny Rand, and the rest of the upcoming show's cast and crew, has a lot to live up to since the show will be following the success of "Daredevil," "Jessica Jones," and "Luke Cage."

The second trailer for "Iron Fist" recycled some scenes from the first teaser, but it had everything from "action to character to intrigue to shared-cinematic-universe world-building." Unlike the other shows featuring the rest of the Defenders, the trailer for "Iron Fist" was surprisingly full of comedic moments.

It seems like showrunner Scott Buck ("Six Feet Under," "Rome") wants the trailer for the upcoming Netflix show to "both start off and end on a light-hearted note." The trailer began with a confident and noticeably barefoot Danny entering the Rand company's HQ, to the surprise of the receptionist who had to face him. The "Iron Fist" trailer also ended on a funny note as Danny tells Claire Temple (once again played by Rosario Dawson) that he is, in fact, "Iron Fist." She replies, "The hell does that mean?"

Like "Daredevil" before it, the "Iron Fist" trailer also featured glimpses of non-stop martial arts action. Viewers can certainly look forward to a lot of action-packed scenes in the upcoming Netflix show.

The "Iron Fist" trailer also featured another familiar face as Wai Ching Ho reprises her role as Madame Gao, a character that also appeared in "Daredevil," per Polygon. It seems that in Danny's absence, the mysterious woman has resumed her heroin trade in Hell's Kitchen.

Harold Meachum, played by David Wenham, is portrayed as the upcoming show's main antagonist. Harold is shown spattered in blood in the trailer, where he also angrily declares that Rand is his company, not Danny's.

Another character that appeared in the trailer was Colleen Wing, portrayed by Jessica Henwick. Colleen is a "martial arts expert who runs her own dojo in New York City," and it looks like the character is more than capable of helping and guiding Danny/Iron Fist as he protects the city.

The trailer also featured Iron Fist's powers himself, which, in the comics, he gained after defeating Shou-Lao the Undying. Danny "plunges his fists into the beast's molten heart, which has been separated and encased in ice as part of his resurrection/punishment." By doing so, Danny absorbs "all the mystical energies that resided in the dragon, which, in turn, allows him to channel his chi into his fist, making it glow, rendering it impervious to any injury, and transforming it into a nearly-unstoppable weapon that can crush or otherwise punch through nearly any material on Earth."
