Alcatel Reveals 7-Inch Budget Tablet: One Touch T10

The 7-inch tablet market is growing rapidly and popular companies like Google, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble already have their products on offer. Now, Alcatel, better known in the U.S. for its phones, has launched its budget tablet the One Touch T10.

The Alcatel One Touch T10 sports a 7-inch TFT display which has an 800 x 480 pixels resolution. A 1 GHz Rockchip RK2918 ARM Cortex-A8 single core processor powers the device. The device offers 4GB of on-board storage with the option to expand to up to 32GB using a microSD card.

The One Touch T10 sports a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera and 1GB of RAM. The device also features a USB port, mini HDMI port, and a headphone jack. The tablet is also Wi-Fi capable.

A 3000 mAh battery powers the tablet and offers 120 hours and 4 hours of standby and usage times, respectively. The tablet weighs 12 ounces (340 grams).

The tablet runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) and icons for the Google Play Store and Google Maps are seen in the promotional photos.

Alcatel has not revealed the pricing of the One Touch T10 in the U.S., but the tablet is expected to sell in Europe for about 120 Euros (USD $156 approximately). Market experts are of the opinion that the tablet may sport a cheaper price tag when and if the tablet is made available in the U.S.

The One Touch T10 packs low-end specs which will not be robust enough able to compete with the current crop of 7-inch Android tablets like Google's Nexus 7 or Amazon's Kindle Fire. However, Alcatel will be hoping that it manages to establish a foothold in the overcrowded Android market, pitching itself as a budget-friendly tablet.

Alcatel's USP would be looking to target first time buyers on a shoestring budget, who are looking for a device with decent features. However, time will tell if Alcatel can swivel its way in the highly competitive tablet market full with big-wigs and find a place for the latest One Touch T10.
