A video posted online shows Wal-Mart employees in Pikeville, Kentucky, destroy one of Apple's most popular devices, the iPad, in a storeroom. What are they up to?
The video is not clear enough to show that the boxed devices actually belong to iPads; however, CNet reported that Wal-Mart confirmed the video is authentic.
The 48-second video was posted on Reddit.com by SenorPierre and the video starts with a Wal-Mart storeroom employee saying "This is why you don't buy an iPad from Wal-Mart." The video then shows how storeroom employees are throwing, flinging, and smashing the packed boxes of the iPads on the floor.
"This was sent to me by an employee of this store. They're fired and prosecuted as well," posted SenorPierre on Reddit.com.
"We've seen the video of several night-shift associates destroying merchandise in the back of one of our stores in August and, as anyone can image, it made us wince. We are also embarrassed," said a Wal-Mart spokesperson.
The spokesperson further added: "Since this unfortunate incident, we haven't received any returns of this merchandise. We stand behind our merchandise, and our associates work very hard to take proper care and handling of the products we put on our shelves."
The video gives a lesson that it is always worth opening the box of a device when you buy it. Recently, a woman in Arlington, Texas was approached by a man who drove up to her at a gas station and offered her an $800 iPad for just $200. The lady could not resist the deal and bought the iPad. It was only when she drove away and later opened the box to find that the back side of her new iPad looked somewhat like an iPad, however, the front had just a picture of an iPad pasted to a mirror.
If you are thinking of buying an iPad soon, will you buy the tablet from a stranger approaching you randomly or from a Wal-Mart store?
