Rogers has announced that starting March this year the carrier will be able to unlock phones for its contract customers who have their handsets activated for 90 days or over for an upfront fees of $50.
Previously, phone users had to wait for the end of the entire contract period before carriers would officially unlock their devices. It seems that the Canadian carrier wants to attract more customers by offering the unlock facility much before the contract termination date.
"For those customers who are under a term commitment, we have made some changes to our device unlocking policy to give you more flexibility in the way you use your wireless device. In March 2013, we'll be changing our policy so that you no longer have to wait until you complete your full term commitment - you can unlock 90 days after activating your device on the Rogers network," stated Rogers.
The carrier also said "We're also making it even easier for you to have your phone unlocked by bringing it to any of our Rogers retail stores."
By unlocking your phone, you can use your wireless device with a SIM card from any other supported mobile carrier worldwide. Unlocking the mobile handset is beneficial for business and regular travelers who go out the country frequently.
Rogers offers an array of smartphones including top-end smartphones like iPhone 5, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Lumia 920, the latest BlackBerry Z10, and more. The news will be welcomed by many subscribers who have wanted to unlock their phones before the end of the contract.
Rogers did not confirm an exact date when it will start unlocking phones in March, but if you want to unlock your phone on Rogers then it's worth waiting for the carrier to officially unlock your phone for you.
