Nook Simple Touch Now Free With Nook HD+ Purchase From Barnes & Noble

Alexandra Burlacu

Barnes & Noble has a new deal in place, offering a free Nook Simple Touch e-reader with each Nook HD+ purchase.

The offer lasts until the end of the month, i.e. March 31, and is the latest promotion from a company that offered specials and deals on a regular basis.

Both the Nook Simple Touch and the Nook HD+ are e-readers, but they are significantly different from each other. The Nook HD+ is a full tablet, complete with a 1080p display and access to apps, while the Nook Simple Touch is a traditional e-reader with an e-ink display, small screen and long battery life.

"By offering a free NOOK Simple Touch with the purchase of NOOK HD+, customers can fully experience all that the expansive NOOK Store of more than 3 million titles has to offer," NOOK Media's President of Digital Products Jamie Iannonne touts in the press release. "NOOK HD+...is perfect for experiencing movies, apps, magazines and more, while NOOK Simple Touch is ideal for reading millions of books."

The Nook HD+ tablet comes with a 9-inch display with full HD resolution and is a light tablet, weighing just a little over 18 ounces. It packs a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and can serve as a means to watch video, use apps and Nook Channels. The Nook Simple Touch, meanwhile, comes with a 6-inch e-ink display and a battery life of two months on a single charge. The e-ink display is a touchscreen and is designed to be readable even in direct sunlight.

The Nook HD+ starts at $269 for the 16GB model, and goes up to $299 for the 32GB version. The Nook Simple Touch normally costs $79, but this month it will be available for free with the purchase of a Nook HD+.

The promotional deals will run between March 24 and March 31  at all the nearly 700 Barnes & Noble retail stores nationwide, Barnes & Noble College Bookstores, as well as online at www.nook.com. The offer is also available through other leading retailers offering Nook products, including Best Buy, Walmart.com and Target, but it will end one day earlier, on March 30.
