Toshiba apparently aims to cover all bases when it comes to Android, and the newly leaked Toshiba AT10LE tablet takes it to the next level.
The company released some great hardware in the past, but it also received various complaints, including criticism for the lack of support for that hardware. A new tablet with a Tegra 4 processor, however, sounds exciting nonetheless.
Keep in mind that Toshiba did not announce any plans to launch a tablet rocking an Nvidia Tegra 4 processor. The tablet instead leaked in some benchmark results, which featured a yet unannounced Toshiba AT10LE tablet with Nvidia's new chip.
The news comes from Greek site Techblog, which offered some details and pictures of the purported slate. The new tablet currently bears the name "AT10LE-A," and apparently it packs Nvidia's newest chip under the hood, the upcoming Tegra 4. This is not the first device rumored to boast the Tegra 4, but it is, however, the first tablet leak.
According to the site, the new Toshiba tablet has a Tegra 4 ARM Cortex-A15 quad-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz. The slate seems to sport a 10.1-inch display and the regular ports and features such as a mini HDMI output, stereo speakers and a micro SD card slot for expandable memory. Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean keeps the show running.
The purported Toshiba AT10LE is a high-end tablet and, much like other Android tablet powerhouses, it appears designed to work with an external keyboard for more convenience. One of the leaked photos, for instance, features a docking station with a full-sized QWERTY keyboard with dedicated Android function keys for back, home and menu options, as well as a number of other things.
By the look of things, the keyboard doesn't have an integrated touchpad, at least not in these pictures. It also remains unclear at this point whether the dock also has a higher-capacity battery to extend the tablet's battery life. Many companies equipped keyboard docks with such extra battery boosts, but not every Android tablet with a physical keyboard option uses the dock for extra juice.
While many leaks usually provide more detailed information, this particular leak regarding the Tegra 4 Toshiba AT10LE tablet comes with no info on screen resolution, no other specs besides the ones mentioned. The leak also makes no mention of the tablet's release date or pricing. Considering that most Tegra 4 tablets will not hit the market until the fourth quarter of this year, it's a safe bet to assume Toshiba's slate may not be available this year. As always with leaks and rumors, take it with a dose of skepticism.
