Samsung Chromebook 2 to sport Galaxy Note 3-like faux-leather case
Alexandra BurlacuThe purported next-generation Samsung Chromebook has leaked online, showing some neat design cues borrowed from the faux-leather Galaxy Note 3.
If a recent leak is to be believed, the Samsung Chromebook 2 may debut soon with a design reminiscent of the company's current flagship phablet. The purported laptop has leaked online in a couple of images, but otherwise with no details whatsoever.
The first leaked image shows the Chrome logo on a faux-leather finish, with the mention that the Galaxy Note 3's design language marches on. The second image, meanwhile, shows the entire device from a rear/lateral side, again with the faux-leather case and this time with both Chrome and Samsung logos.
While there's no way to certify the authenticity of these images, the source adds to their credibility. Both images come from none other than @evleaks, the well-known tipster who has an excellent track record when it comes to outing yet-to-be-announced devices and plans in the tech world. This is by no means official confirmation, but @evleaks is among the most trusted leakers out there.
Aside from the images, @evleaks has revealed nothing in terms of specifications, price, launch date, or other details. This means that the purported Samsung Chromebook 2 remains a mystery for now, even for the well-connected tipster.
While it's not official just yet, it has been a good while since Samsung launched its original Chromebook, and this is not the first time that a sequel is rumored. The next-generation Samsung Chromebook is expected to sport notable improvements over its predecessor.
Back at the beginning of January, a report out of Korea claimed that Samsung's upcoming Chromebook will pack an Exynos 5 Octa 5420 chipset based on big.LITTLE technology, featuring four low-lower Cortex A7 1.3GHz cores and four Cortex A15 1.8GHz cores. At the time, the report further mentioned that the Samsung Chromebook 2 would have a 12-inch or smaller display with a 2560 x 1600 resolution, 3GB of RAM, Mali T628 graphics, 16GB or 32GB SSD storage, USB 3.0, and last for up to seven hours on a single charge. Needless to mention, it would run Google's Chrome OS. The original Samsung Chromebook came with an 11.6-inch display, an Exynos 5 Dual processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB SSD storage, among other specs.
With nothing confirmed, however, it is advisable to take all leaks and reports with a grain of salt until Samsung officially announced its new Chromebook.
