Nexus 6 and Google smartwatch to come from LG this fall?
Alexandra BurlacuLG will reportedly be making the next-generation Nexus 6 smartphone, as well as the much-rumored Google smartwatch, according to some new information.
Android chief Sundar Pinchai clearly said that no new Nexus smartphone would debut until the fall, but that hasn't stopped the rumor mill from speculating which manufacturer would be in charge of making the next Google smartphone.
LG has successfully made the popular Nexus 4 and the current Nexus 5 flagship, and it wouldn't be such a big surprise if Google decided to stick with LG for the next-generation Nexus smartphone as well. It gets interesting, however, when the new report claims that LG will also make the much-rumored Google smartwatch.
The news comes from a "business-related source" that spoke to Gizmodo's German arm, as reported by Android Community. The unnamed tipster reportedly claimed that the Nexus 6 would end up being a stripped-down version of the LG G3.
The leak further mentions that both the Nexus 6 and the purported Google smartwatch would see the light of day sometimes this fall, despite recent reports claiming that they would debut this month.
LG currently has no smartwatch for sale, which makes it difficult to determine what an LG Nexus smartwatch would be based on. The company based its Google Nexus smartphones on its own handsets, but with no smartwatch in its portfolio, it remains to be seen what the Nexus gadget would have to offer. Meanwhile, this new leak contradicts a previous rumor that the Android team was designing and building their own smartwatch.
As for the Nexus 6, Gizmodo's tipster speculates that it will be inspired by the company's the upcoming LG G3, as previously mentioned. The LG-made Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 were both quite impressive and turned out to be very popular, so it will be interesting to see what the company pulls off with the next-generation Nexus 6.
For now, however, it's all just speculation and should be treated accordingly. No substantial evidence backs up the claim that LG will be making the Nexus 6 and the rumored Google smartwatch, so we'll just have to file this in the rumor category for now.
