Instagram for Android update brings faster, more responsive UI, but no Lux custom slider
Alexandra BurlacuA new Instagram for Android update brings the app to version 5.1, sporting an enhanced user interface (UI) and a smaller download size.
The app's developers have made considerable efforts to make Instagram more accessible on all sorts of devices in various shapes and sizes. Aside from the enhanced UI, the developers have also cut the app's download size in half, in an effort to make it more responsive, smoother, and faster.
With the latest update, Instagram for Android can now load a user's profile screen twice as fast compared to the previous version, and it also brings a smoother UI with a cleaner flat design. This alteration apparently allows Instagram to work better on small-screen devices, enabling owners of more compact phones to use the app as well without facing any difficulties.
Other than the aforementioned improvements, this update doesn't really add any new features to Instagram for Android. It looks more like a maintenance update designed to enhance the user experience, but without bringing big changes to the app.
When it comes to the Instagram for iOS version, meanwhile, we just recently reported that the app has received a new update. That package didn't contain any huge changes either, but it did bring a more convenient functionality to the Lux feature within the app. Lux allows Instagram users to soften or sharpen their images by adjusting the contrast, and the new iOS version now has a custom Lux slider that provides easier access. As with any update, the new version also came with the usual mix of bug fixes and overall performance improvements.
Unlike the iOS update, the new Instagram for Android doesn't feature the new Lux custom slider, and there's no news so far on whether it will eventually get it or not.
The improvements to the Lux feature within Instagram should roll out to the Android and Windows Phone versions of the app as well, but nothing is confirmed at this point. Considering that Instagram for Android just received its latest update, however, there's also a chance that the Lux enhancements pushed to the iOS version are not in the cards for the app on Android.
If you use Instagram on either Android or iOS, you can now grab the latest version of the app from the Google Play store or the App Store, respectively.
