Alexandra BurlacuJust as promised, the Samsung Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone has hit commercial availability worldwide, launching in 125 markets on Friday, April 11, along with Samsung's new wearables.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has now launched worldwide in numerous markets, including the U.S., Europe, Middle East, Latin America, and most of Asia. The flagship smartphone is accompanies by the company's new trio of wearable devices, the Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches and the Gear Fit health tracker.
As a reminder, Samsung's latest Galaxy S5 flagship boasts the fastest processor on any smartphone currently available on the market, packs some notable built-in fitness features, and is dust and water-resistant with IP67 certification to make it more durable. The smartphone also has a new fingerprint sensor for extra security and a high-end camera that should provide superior performance compared to its predecessor.
"The refined design and technological innovation of our new Galaxy S5 and Samsung Gear devices are the direct result of Samsung listening carefully to what consumers wanted in the next generation of mobile technology," touts JK Shin, Samsung's CEO and President of IT & Mobile Communications Division. "We carefully crafted each device to offer a sophisticated, superior mobile experience that lets consumers stay connected in their own way to focus on what really matters to them."
In the U.S., the new Samsung Galaxy S5 is now available on every major carrier, including Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile, with a $199.99 price tag on a two-year contract. Customers can also choose to get the smartphone on monthly financing plans as a more convenient way of purchasing the handset at full retail cost, without the huge impact of an outright payment and without committing to a two-year wireless contract.
Verizon also has an attractive buy one, get one free offer in place and customers who purchase the Galaxy S5 from the carrier can either get another one for free, or choose from a free HTC One M8 or Samsung ATIV SE. Contracts are required for each device.
When it comes to the wearable gadgets, most retailers and carriers in the U.S. are charging $199 for the Gear Fit and the Gear 2 Neo, and $299 for the Gear 2.
