Radio Shack is offering a notable discount on the iPhone 5S, selling the 16GB model for just $99 with a two-year contract on AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint.

The new price tag for the 16GB iPhone 5S from Radio Shack marks a $100 discount, as the smartphone regularly sells for $199.99 with a two-year contract agreement. At the same time, it also marks one of the lowest prices yet for the handset.

The iPhone 5S is Apple's latest flagship smartphone and has stirred lots of interest even before it made its official debut. While it still doesn't have a larger display, the iPhone 5S comes packed with high-end specs and features, as well as a much-touted fingerprint reader called Touch ID for extra security.

As a reminder, Apple's current flagship smartphone sports the same 4-inch Retina display as its predecessor, offering a resolution of 1136 x 640 at a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch (ppi). The iPhone 5S further packs Apple's new A7 64-bit processor coupled with an M7 coprocessor and 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.2-megapixel FaceTime front shooter, and a non-removable 1,560 mAh battery.

Launched back in September 2013, the iPhone 5S also brought new color options, coming in gold, silver, and gray paint jobs instead of the regular black and white color options Apple had offered with previous iPhone iterations.

The iPhone 5S has enjoyed great success and is considered one of the best smartphones currently available on the market, although newer flagships have launched in the meantime. Apple is also expected to unveil its next-generation iPhone 6 later this year, finally taking the step toward a larger display.

It remains unclear at this point whether Radio Shack's new offer aims to clear iPhone 5S inventory ahead of the iPhone 6 launch. Often times, retailers apply discounts on iPhones three months or less ahead of a new product launch, but it's unlikely that Radio Shack would be the only one with insight on the iPhone 6's arrival.

The retailer doesn't mention whether this is a promotional deal set to end soon and, if so, when this deal will expire. For now, the iPhone 5S is available for $99 on-contract with AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. Radio Shack is also offering trade-ins on older iPhones and the iPhone 4S, for instance, would get a minimum of $100, which means that interested customers who trade in and iPhone 4S can get an iPhone 5S for free.
