HTC One M8 Mini reportedly headed to Verizon – Will it be another exclusive?
Alexandra BurlacuHTC is reportedly working on a smaller version of its newly-launched flagship and more details have now emerged regarding the purported HTC One M8 Mini.
The current trend on the smartphone market is to launch a high-end flagship handset and then release various spinoffs of the flagship, including a more compact variant that generally has the "Mini" moniker in its name. Samsung started this trend with its Galaxy S3 Mini and continued last year with its Galaxy S4 Mini, and HTC followed suit by launching an HTC One Mini in 2013.
If HTC follows the same product strategy from last year, the company should launch both smaller and larger variants of its 2014 HTC One M8 flagship smartphone.
The HTC One M8 Mini has been rumored before, and now more details have surfaced, revealing the first carrier to launch the device. The news comes from none other than @evleaks, the well-known and trusted tipster who has proved to be accurate countless times in the past when leaking details about unannounced devices or plans in the tech world.
According to the tipster, the HTC One M8 Mini is headed to Verizon Wireless in the U.S., but there's no word yet on whether the smartphone will launch as a Verizon-exclusive or will hit other carriers as well. With the flagship HTC One M8, for instance, Verizon had the exclusive for two weeks after the smartphone's launch, and HTC may choose to do the same with its HTC One M8 Mini.
While nothing is official just yet, the HTC One M8 Mini is expected to come with a 4.5-inch display with 720p resolution, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.4GHz, and 1 GB of RAM. Other rumored specifications include 16GB of internal storage capacity, a microSD card slot for additional memory, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front shooter, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, and Bluetooth 4.0. On the software side, the HTC One M8 Mini should run Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, with HTC Sense 6.0 on top. The smaller handset is also expected to sport the same on-screen buttons as the flagship HTC One M8.
Rumors so far have indicated that the HTC One M8 Mini may hit commercial availability in May, but HTC has yet to announce or confirm such plans. Verizon has not made any announcement either, so take everything with a grain of salt for now.
