On May 16, HTC is set to unveil the HTC U reportedly bearing the Edge Sense technology. According to the flyers already sent out by the Taiwanese company, the upcoming event has a tagline, "Squeeze for the brilliant U".

Previously codenamed as Ocean, most probably it will be called officially as HTC U. According to The Verge, this latest flagship of the company, according to some reports, is said to be embedded with touch sensors all over the device's body and by squeezing it, the user can interact with the phone and can also carry out the task by this gesture. This technology can't be considered as all-new. Japanese carrier NTT Docomo made a prototype called Grip UI and it was five years ago. This prototype could perform voice searches, launch applications and can even unlock itself. This can be done depending on the pressure applied on the edge of the device.

Talking about HTC U's other features, it is said that it will have a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 display and will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and run by Android Nougat 7.1. It will also be equipped with a 12MP rear camera while its front camera will have 16MP. Hopes are high that compared to underwhelming U Ultra, the upcoming HTC U will be much better than, says CNBC.

It is not a secret in the mobile phone industry that HTC undergone some difficulties. In the midst of tight competition between tech giants in the market, it is a struggle for HTC to survive with towering companies like Apple and Samsung to compete with high-end products. Tech Radar notes that when it comes to its mid-range devices, Vivo and Oppo from China is the company's direct rival.

Being under this dilemma, HTC has sought out other aspects to have a bigger possibility of success. The company has ventured on virtual reality and it started with the HTC Vive headset.
