Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet headed to Verizon Wireless in the U.S.
Alexandra BurlacuThe high-end Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is apparently headed to Verizon Wireless in the U.S., expected to become available soon on Big Red's network.
Sony's plans to launch its latest devices in the U.S. are not very clear and well-defined at this point. Its flagship Xperia Z2 smartphone, for instance, has already made a rocky debut in other regions, but it has yet to hit commercial availability in the U.S. It was rumored to become available on Verizon, but Sony later announced that the smartphone would only launch in unlocked form.
We now have some news about the company's Xperia Z2 Tablet, which is headed to Verizon if a new leak is to be believed. Nothing is official at this point, but the news comes from a trusted source.
More specifically, the info comes from well-known tipster @evleaks, who has been accurate numerous times in the past when spilling the beans about unannounced devices and plans in the tech world. The tipster only said that the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is headed to Verizon, but offered no additional details regarding the device's launch on Big Red's network.
This means that it remains unclear at this point just when the Xperia Z2 Tablet will become available on Verizon, but an official announcement should arrive soon enough. If both the Xperia Z2 Tablet and the Xperia Z2 smartphone are headed to Verizon, the carrier may choose to announce both devices on the same day and they may become available at the same time as well.
Both the Xperia Z2 smartphone and the tablet made their official debut back at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 in Barcelona, boasting high-end specs and features and waterproof capabilities for extra durability and ruggedness. Both devices rock quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processors, the latest version of Android (KitKat), and Sony's own interface on top. Both the smartphone and the tablet also come with a hefty 3GB of RAM for a fast and fluid performance.
The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet sports a 10.1-inch full HD display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, 3GB of RAM, 16GB/32GB of internal storage capacity, and a large 6,000 mAh battery.
If this leak proves to be accurate, the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet powerhouse should join Verizon's lineup soon enough. As always with leaks and rumors, however, it's best to take it with a grain of salt until an official announcement.
