Sony Xperia T3 mid-ranger debuts as world’s thinnest 5.3-inch smartphone
Alexandra BurlacuSony has just launched a new Xperia T3 smartphone, which it touts as the world's thinnest handset of its size.
The Xperia T3 launch comes one day after Sony posted a teaser image on Twitter, hinting towards an imminent smartphone announcement.
"Shh... do you want to know a secret? Stay tuned for the next big thing this season," Sony touted in its post.
Judging by the "next big thing" teaser in the announcement, the general belief was that the company was getting ready to unveil an Xperia Z Ultra successor. As it turns out, the big announcement was in fact for the new Xperia Z3, a new mid-range smartphone with a massive 5.3-inch display.
Sony has officially unveiled the new Xperia Z3 on Tuesday, June 3, calling it the world's slimmest 5.3-inch phone.
"Xperia T3 has been crafted with attention to detail for those who know how to appreciate distinctive design in their everyday life," Calum MacDougall, Director of Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications, boasts in the press release. "The T3 is packed with the latest beautiful technology from Sony - including leading digital imaging expertise and a vivid HD display - all within a stylish, stainless steel frame. The combination of this beautiful technology and the premium design ensures the T3 immediately stands apart from the competition."
Sony's new ultra-thin Xperia T3 measures just 7mm in thickness, and should appeal to smartphone shoppers who want a mid-range device that looks and feels good, yet doesn't draw a huge hole through their wallets.
In terms of specifications, the Sony Xperia T3 comes with a 5.3-inch 720p HD display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.4GHz, 1GB of RAM, and a 2,500 mAh battery.
Other specs include 8GB of internal storage capacity, microSD card support for additional memory, an 8-megapixel Exmor RS rear camera, and a 1.1-megapixel front shooter. On the software side, the new Sony Xperia T3 runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.
As the above-listed specs clearly suggest, the Sony Xperia T3 is by no means a high-end smartphone. It comes in the mid-range category, but packs decent specifications for this segment of the market. Sony has yet to reveal any pricing details for the handset, but the Sony Xperia T3 should come with an affordable price considering its specs. In terms of launch and availability, the smartphone will hit retail by the end of July and will be available in black, white, or violet color options.
