Samsung tablet with 12-inch 4K display spotted in the wild at Roland Garros
Alexandra BurlacuA 12-inch Samsung tablet with a 4K Ultra HD display may be hitting the market soon, as a prototype was just spotted in the wild.
Samsung said that it would focus more of its efforts on tablets this year, and so far the company has stayed true to its promise. It already launched several slates this year and it reportedly has a new Galaxy Tab S lineup in the works, expected to debut next week.
The company is holding an event on June 12, where it is widely expected to take the wraps off its rumored Galaxy Tab S tablets. Those slates, however, will come in two-sizes: one with an 8.4-inch screen and the other with a 10.5-inch display. The prototype that just surfaced has a screen size of 12 inches and a whopping 4K UHD resolution.
The folks over at Tech Radar have spotted this 12-inch Samsung tablet in the wild, as it was reportedly being used as part of an LTE Broadcast demonstration during the French Open at Roland Garros. No details on specs have surfaced yet, but TechRadar has learned that it will pack a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor under the hood.
The slate doesn't seem to be part of the purported Galaxy Tab S lineup, which has leaked extensively as of late, as no reports have ever mentioned a 12-inch model.
As you can see in the image above, this 12-inch Samsung tablet comes with the usual Samsung home button, the company's logo, and capacitive buttons. If this tablet is indeed set to make its debut soon, it may launch alongside the Galaxy Tab S models at Samsung's event on June 12.
If this purported tablet launches with a 4K display, Samsung may have a real winner on its hands as currently there aren't really any choices in this field. The only tablet available with a 4K display is from Panasonic, but with a gigantic 20-inch display it can be hardly called a decent tablet option.
None of this is confirmed, however, so it's best to take this news with a grain of salt. If Samsung plans to launch a 12-inch 4K tablet soon, we should be hearing more about it next week at the company's June 12 event. We'll stay on top of it and bring you the latest news as soon as they become available, so stay tuned.
