iPad Air 2 to launch this fall as incremental update
Alexandra BurlacuA second-generation is reportedly ready to enter production soon, preparing for a debut this fall, if a new report turns out to be accurate.
Currently there is a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming iPhone 6, which is expected to make its debut in September or October of this year. If Apple sticks to its usual launch cycles, the company should also release new tablet offerings after its iPhone unveiling, and rumors hint to an iPad Air 2.
According to a new rumor out of Korea, the iPad Air 2 is ready to enter production, with component production reportedly set to commence as soon as this month. Korean publication ETNews claims that Apple will not make any design changes this year with its upcoming iPad Air 2. The new slate will reportedly retain the same 2,048 x 1,536 resolution display, but should sport some notable improvements under the hood.
More specifically, Apple is reportedly going to pack some neat upgrades where the heavy lifting takes place, i.e. in the processor department. The upcoming iPad Air 2 is expected to come rocking Apple's new A8 SoC under the hood, but it remains unknown at this point just how much RAM will back up the processor.
In addition to the chipset, Apple is also expected to upgrade the slate's camera, bumping up the existing iPad Air's 5-megapixel rear shooter to an 8-megapixel rear camera with the next generation. No other details are currently available regarding the camera improvements.
When it comes to the launch timeframe, the new iPad Air is expected to make its debut this fall. A new iPad Mini with Retina display should also arrive alongside the iPad Air 2, and it may be just an incremental update as well.
Keep in mind, however, that none of this is confirmed at this point, and ETNews cites no credible sources to back up its claims. As always in such instances, it is highly recommended to take all leaks, rumors, and reports with a hefty grain of salt until an official announcement. We'll make sure to keep you up to date as soon as we hear more about Apple's iPad launch plans, so stay tuned.
