iPhone 6 flexible sapphire display leaks online (VIDEO)
Alexandra BurlacuThe 4.7-inch iPhone 6 has leaked in a new video, purportedly showing a pre-production sapphire front panel that would replace the Corning Gorilla Glass.
Apple is widely rumored to launch two large-screen iPhone models this year, one with a 4.7-inch panel and the other with a massive 5.5-inch screen. The 4.7-inch version has leaked extensively so far, and a new video now bolsters claims that Apple is getting ready to switch from Gorilla Glass to an in-house sapphire glass panel.
The newly-leaked video comes out of Hong Kong from an unknown source, as French blog Nowhereelse simply mentions an "anonymous retailer." Some frames do reveal a Hong Kong-based supplier, but it remains unclear which one.
The four-minute video shows what looks like a white front panel for Apple's upcoming iPhone 6. The purported panel also appears on top of the current iPhone 5S, as well as right beside it, for a good size comparison. When measured diagonally, the display comes in at roughly 4.7 inches, revealing that the video shows off the smaller of the two iPhone 6 models. The panel also seems to sport more rounded edges, confirming previous leaks that the iPhone 6 will feature a rounder design.
The component also shows an impressive degree of flexibility, as the video shows that it can bend without any obvious effort or damage. Famous blogger Sonny Dickson, who has previously provided accurate information about the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C before their release, has also published the video and claims that this panel is made of sapphire. The way the panel flexes suggests that it's not made of the more rigid Gorilla Glass, but it remains unconfirmed whether it's indeed sapphire.
Apple is widely expected to take the wraps off its new-generation iPhone 6 in September. It remains unclear at this point whether the 4.7- and 5.5-inch models will debut simultaneously, or the smaller version will arrive first. Earlier rumors suggested that some production challenges would delay the launch of the larger model, but subsequent reports claimed that Apple resolved those issues and the two iPhone 6 models are set to launch at the same time.
The iPhone 6 is further rumored to pack a powerful Apple A8 processor, run the latest iOS 8, and sport notable improvements including NFC, wireless charging, enhanced LTE, improved camera, and more.
With nothing officially confirmed, however, it is highly advisable to take all iPhone 6 leaks, rumors, and speculation with a grain of salt. In the meantime, check out the video below to see what the iPhone 6's panel could be like.
