Moto 360 hype: New teaser from Motorola highlights the magic of design (VIDEO)
Alexandra BurlacuWhile Motorola's much-touted Android Wear smartwatch is yet to make its debut, the company has now released a new Moto 360 teaser to boost anticipation.
The first two devices to launch with Google's latest Android Wear operating system on board are the LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live, which already went on sale after debuting at the Google I/O 2014 developer conference. The Moto 360 was a special guest at the event as well, but it will not hit the market until later this summer.
Motorola has yet to provide an exact launch date for its highly-anticipated Moto 360, but the company has now posted a new teaser video on YouTube, in an effort to further boost anticipation for its upcoming Android Wear smartwatch.
The brief video doesn't go into details regarding the gadget's specifications, but emphasizes on the design. While most smartwatches sport a rectangular form factor, the Moto 360 drew lots of attention due to its round-shaped design, which makes it look more like a traditional wristwatch.
The video features Moto 360 Product Lead Lior Ron and gives us some insight on how the Moto 360 was designed, highlighting that a watch "is basically self-expression on your wrist." Ron further explains that the company wanted to "create a balance between design and functionality," noting that it was a challenge to pack all that high-end tech into a minimalistic design.
With no specifications official so far for the Moto 360, all we know is that the smartwatch will have a round display, likely AMOLED, and will launch later this summer with Android Wear on board. The smartwatch will come in two color options - black and stainless steel - and will also have a range of bands and leather straps.
In terms of functionality, the Moto 360 will likely provide a user experience similar to the recently-launched LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live, as manufacturers don't add any major customization to the Android Wear platform.
As previously mentioned, Motorola has yet to reveal an exact launch date for its Moto 360, but the smartwatch is expected to make its debut soon. In the meantime, check out the video below to learn more about its design.
