Apple’s iPhone 6 to break all records – Initial order doubles that of iPhone 5
Alexandra BurlacuApple's upcoming iPhone 6 may break new records, as the company reportedly placed a whopping amount of orders for the handset ahead of its launch this fall.
More specifically, Apple reportedly ordered twice as many iPhone 6 units compared to iPhone 5 orders back in 2012. The iPhone 6 is one of the most highly-anticipated devices of this year and is expected to see huge demand, especially since it will finally boast a larger screen. Apple is rumored to launch two iPhone 6 models this year, both with large displays. A smaller variant will allegedly come with a 4.7-inch screen, while the larger model will rock a 5.5-inch display and purportedly launch as the iPhone Air.
According to a new report from Taiwan's Business Weekly (translated, via GforGames), Apple has placed a great amount of orders for the iPhone 6 ahead of the smartphone's launch this fall. The publication claims that Apple's first iPhone 6 order will see 68 million units, and the device is set to enter mass production later this month. This news falls in line with previous rumors, which also claimed that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will go into production this month. The Taiwanese report, however, doesn't mention whether it refers to the smaller model or the joint production of both the 4.7 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6.
Considering that Apple faced some supply issues last year when it launched its iPhone 5s and two years ago with its iPhone 5, it would make sense for the company to place a large initial order this year for the iPhone 6 in order to avoid such hurdles.
Some earlier rumors claimed that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 would launch first, as the 5.5-inch model would be delayed over some production issues, but subsequent reports said that Apple had resolved those issues and both iPhone 6 models would launch at the same time.
The iPhone 6 is expected to boast a faster Apple A8 processor, a slimmer case with curved edges, a highly-resistant sapphire display, and lots of other notable improvements over its predecessor. Rumors hinted at an enhanced Touch ID fingerprint reader, better 4G LTE radios, NFC, wireless charging, and more, in addition to the larger displays. Apple is widely expected to unleash its next-generation iPhone 6 in September, but it all remains unconfirmed at this point. As always in such cases, take everything with a grain of salt.
