Sony Xperia C3, ‘world’s best selfie smartphone,’ gets pricing details
Alexandra BurlacuSony announced its Xperia C3 last month as the "world's best selfie smartphone," and now some pricing details have surfaced for the handset.
The Sony Xperia C3 comes in both single-SIM and dual-SIM variants. Sony unveiled both models last month and said they would make their global debut in August, starting their journey in China.
Chinese online retailer JD has now listed the Sony Xperia C3 on its website (via GSMArena), offering pricing details for the device. The smartphone appers with a price tag of CNY 1,999 (about $323, €241) for the dual-SIM version.
As a reminder, both versions of the Sony Xperia C3 come with identical specifications save for the SIM card support. The top feature of the Xperia C3 is its 5-megapixel front shooter with LED flash, which makes it the "world's best selfie smartphone," according to Sony. This front camera has a wide-angle view to easily capture a group selfie, catering to this growing trend.
"Xperia C3 is a unique new smartphone from Sony, created to offer the ultimate social sharing experience with a new powerful 'PROselfie cam.' It also presents a combination of the best of Sony, with leading digital imaging technology and brilliant specs and performance for a mid-range price," Calum MacDougall, Director of Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications, said back in July when announcing the smartphone.
"The rise of selfies shows no signs of abating - its usage has increased by 17,000% since 2012 with the word officially being added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2013. We're excited to offer SONY's first 'PROselfie Smartphone' and play a part in this global phenomenon."
Other than the 5-megapixel selfie camera on the front, the Xperia C3 also comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash. Both cameras also come with neat features such as Portrait Retouch and Picture Effects, superior Auto, Movie Creator, Social Live, Timeshift-burst, and more.
Other specs include a 5.5-inch HD Triluminos display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.2GHz, Adreno 305 graphics and 1GB of RAM. The handset further comes with 8GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional memory, and a 2,500 mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, and GLONASS. On the software side, Android 4.4 KitKat runs the show out of the box. The smartphone comes in Black, White, and Mint color options, but the retailer only lists the white version for now.
The pricing listed for the single-SIM Sony Xperia C3 in China is quite decent considering the smartphone's specifications, but keep in mind that the price may vary depending on market. No additional details are available at this point regarding the Xperia C3's launch or pricing in other regions, but we'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more. In the meantime, check out the video below to learn more about the smartphone.
