iPhone 6 leaks in retail packaging ahead of big debut
Alexandra BurlacuThe next-generation smartphone from Apple, expected to launch as the iPhone 6, has just surfaced in newly-leaked images showing the device in retail packaging.
The iPhone 6 is without a doubt one of the most highly-anticipated devices of this year, especially since it's expected to finally come with a bigger display. While rival smartphone makers have launched handsets with increasingly larger screens, iPhones have not topped 4 inches so far. That's all expected to change this year, as Apple is rumored to launch not one, but two large-screen iPhones: one with a 4.7-inch panel and the other with a massive 5.5-inch display.
Leaks pertaining to the next-generation iPhone have surfaced on a daily basis, boosting anticipation ahead of the big unveiling. The latest leak, courtesy of Techradar, now shows the purported iPhone 5 in its retail box. More specifically, three new images allegedly show the smartphone in a Silver White color option, with the monochrome Apple logo on its start screen and a close shot of its retail package. It's not clear from these images whether they show the 4.7-inch model or the 5.5-inch one.
Based on these images, the retail box for the upcoming iPhone 6 looks quite similar to the retail package for the current iPhone 5S. The box features an image of the next-generation Apple smartphone on the front, while the sides are marked with "iPhone 6."
Other than giving us a glimpse into the smartphone's design and retail packaging, this new leak doesn't offer any details regarding the handset's specifications or features. The design, meanwhile, seems to fall in line with previous reports, and shows what looks like a Touch ID fingerprint scanner.
It's tough to determine whether these newly-leaked images are the real deal or not, as their authenticity is not confirmed for now. As always in such cases, it's highly recommended to take everything with a grain of salt until an official word. Apple has yet to make any announcements regarding its plans for the next-generation iPhone, but the company is expected to take the wraps off the iPhone 6 next month.
More specifically, Apple is expected to unveil at least one iPhone 6 model on Sept. 9, according to the rumor mill, which would fall in line with the company's previous launch schedules. It remains to be seen whether this purported unveiling date is accurate, but we'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more.
