Nexus 6 Motorola ‘Shamu’ specs revealed: Snapdragon 805, 3GB of RAM, QHD display
Alexandra BurlacuMotorola's rumored "Shamu" device, expected to launch as the next Google Nexus smartphone, has just popped up in another benchmark listing, revealing some of its specs.
A lot of hype surrounds the next-generation Nexus devices from Google, as the lineup has always enjoyed great success. The Nexus family of devices has proved to be widely popular because they pack good specifications, retail with an affordable price tag, and come with the much-touted Nexus experience that guarantees timely updates as soon as a new version of Android is available. Moreover, Nexus devices also offer a pure Android experience, unaltered by the manufacturer's pre-loaded bloatware.
Google has so far teamed up with multiple companies for its Nexus lineup. The last Nexus smartphones came from LG, but the company said a while ago that it will not be in charge of this year's iteration. Motorola is rumored to make the Nexus 6 this year, and its purported "Shamu" handset may be it.
Just last month, Android Police spotted the next-generation Nexus smartphone at the Google issue tracker, which contained the "Shamu" reference for the device.
Dutch publication TechTastic has also spotted an intriguing listing on GFXBench on Tuesday, Aug. 12, which reveals test results for the unannounced Motorola Shamu device. According to the benchmark results in question, the device got a 714 frames per second (fps) score in the onscreen GFXBench test, which is pretty close to the recently-launched OnePlus One smartphone. Other smartphones listed alongside the Motorola Shamu include the Samsung Galaxy S5, the HTC One M8, the Sony Xperia Z2, and the LG G3.
This benchmark listing for the purported Motorola Shamu doesn't reveal much else regarding the device's internal specifications, but a new appearance on AnTuTu offers more details.
More specifically, AnTuTu reveals that the device will pack a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor under the hood, consisting of four cores clocked at 2.64GHz, paired with a hefty 3GB of RAM and Adreno 420 graphics.
The listing further shows that the smartphone will sport a 5.2-inch QHD (2K) display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and, unsurprisingly, it will run the latest Android L release.
Google's next Nexus smartphone is rumored to debut in November and be available through all of the major U.S. carriers.
In addition to a new Nexus 6 smartphone, Google is also expected to launch a tablet in collaboration with HTC. Referred to as the Nexus 8, Nexus 9, or the HTC Volantis/Flounder, this purported Nexus tablet remains in the rumor state as well.
