Samsung Galaxy A5 (SM-A500) leaks in new images, no full-metal body
Alexandra BurlacuThe premium-looking Samsung Galaxy Alpha is reportedly just the first in a series of smartphones, and another device in the purported "A series" has now leaked online.
Not too long ago, Samsung finally loosened its bond with plastic and launched the Galaxy Alpha, which came with a stylish metal frame to make it look and feel more premium. It was rumored at the time that the Galaxy Alpha was just the first in an "A series" of such handsets.
We later found out that Samsung was actually working on three handsets part of this purported A series, and the devices reportedly sport model numbers SM-A300, SM-A500, and SM-A700. Just recently, more details have surfaced regarding the A-500 model, which is expected to hit the market as a mid-range offering.
This purported Samsung A-500 was also recently spotted at TENAA, a Chinese regulatory authority that is the equivalent of the FCC, and now some more images have made their way online claiming to give us a better look at the device.
"We exclusively confirmed that the SM-A500 would be the first of three handsets in the lineup, and today, we can confirm that it will be launched as the Galaxy A5," SamMobile reveals in an exclusive new report.
The publication also managed to obtain some images of the upcoming device, confirming that it will sport a similar design to the Galaxy Alpha, albeit it will not be as premium because it will launch in the mid-range segment of the smartphone market. Moreover, while this SM-A500 was previously rumored to boast a full-metal body, the latest info suggests otherwise.
"We earlier said that the Galaxy A5 would feature a full-metal body, but according to our insider, that might not be the case. Apparently, the phone isn't made of plastic or metal, but a material that 'feels good in the hand,' unlike the Galaxy S5 or the Galaxy Alpha," SamMobile further reports. "Metallic devices often feel cold to the touch, but it's possible Samsung is using some unique (read: not to standard) material in order to keep the device's cost down while still maintaining a somewhat premium feel."
In terms of specifications, previous reports have suggested that the Samsung Galaxy A5 will sport a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor under the hood, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage capacity expandable via microSD.
Other rumored specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,330 mAh battery to keep things up and running. On the software side, the smartphone is expected to run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, with Samsung's new TouchWiz UI on top.
Keep in mind, however, that Samsung has made no comment in this regards so far, so all Galaxy A5-related info remains in the rumor state at this point. As always in such cases, it's best to take all leaks, rumors, and reports with a grain of salt.
