Meet Jawbone’s new UP3 and UP Move fitness trackers (VIDEO)
Alexandra BurlacuJawbone just unveiled a couple of new fitness trackers called the UP3 and the UP Move, which track your sleep, workouts, and heart rate.
The UP Move is an entry-level fitness tracker with a clip-on option for extra convenience, and comes with a low price tag of $50. The UP3 is the more advanced of the duo, featuring a heart rate sensor and coming in at $180.
Jawbone UP3
The higher-end UP3 fitness tracker features a sensor combo designed to detect and monitor the wearer's heart rate. Such sensors include a tri-axis accelerometer, bioimpedance sensors, as well as skin and ambient temperature sensors. This combination of sensors can monitor the user's resting heart rate, which, according to Jawbone, is an essential indicator for monitoring overall heart health.
"The most advanced activity tracker known to man, UP3 is packed with state-of-the-art sensors that give you the full picture of your health. Heart Health Sensor measures resting heart rate - a leading indicator of your overall health and fitness level. Workouts are automatically recognized and logged. You'll gain in-depth understanding of your sleep. All this, in an impossibly small, water-resistant design with a full week of battery life. So you'll need to recharge before UP3 ever does," touts Jawbone.
According to the company, the UP3 comes with advanced sleep monitoring and workout tracking functions. The device can even detect and classify the type of workout the user is doing, whether it's running, walking, playing tennis, and so on.
The tracker itself doesn't feature a display, as the UP3 relies on the companion smartphone app to display the data it collects. Once it learns the user's habits and overall condition, the UP app can also suggest personalized workouts for the best results.
In terms of appearance, the UP3 features a new clasp design reminiscent of classical watchbands, courtesy of industrial designer Yves Behar. Notable features also include waterproof capabilities in up to ten feet of water, and a long battery life that will last for up to seven days on a single charge.
When it comes to availability, the new Jawbone UP3 will make its commercial debut later this year at Jawbone.com, as well as Apple and Best Buy stores. The gadget will launch in a black color option at first, with additional colors coming next year. In the meantime, check out the video below to learn more about it.
Jawbone UP Move
The $50 entry-level UP Move comes with basic functions. An accelerometer will track the user's steps, exercise, calories burned, and some basic facts about their sleep patterns, and present all information in the companion UP app. Users can wear the UP Move tracker either on the wrist, or clipped on to some piece of clothing. The gadget also comes with an LED display.
"Get fit, lose weight and have fun doing it. UP MOVE comes in a bunch of brilliant colors that you can mix and match with accessories. Clip it on and wear it anywhere. And with an LED display and Smart Coach to guide you, the UP MOVE tracker doesn't just count your steps and track your sleep - it gets you over the hump and moving on your path to a better you," boasts the product description.
The Jawbone UP Move comes with standard, replaceable batteries, and will hit retail later this month at Jawbone.com, Apple, Best Buy, and Target stores. For more information, check out the video below.
